Since 1982 the silver coin Libertad (Freedom) with the motif of the goddess of victory "Victoria" has been minted in the Mexican mint "Casa de Moneda de México".

It is characterised by a fineness of 999/1000 silver, as is usual for common bullion coins, and is therefore seen as the first bullion silver coin.

Silver coin Libertad (1982 - 1995)

The Libertad is a coin and not a medal, although no nominal value is stamped on it.

The nominal value is based on the current silver price, which is determined daily on the stock exchange. The silver coin is available in Germany at many coin dealers and partly also banks and savings banks. Among the common investment coins made of silver, it is the only silver coin that has no nominal (face value).

A total of four coin series have been produced so far, some of which differ in the design of the motif and also in the respective minting processes. The first two coin series, which were minted in the years 1982 - 1991 and 1992 - 1995, are referred to in literature or colloquially by the Spanish term "Onza" (ounce).

1 oz Libertad

The diameter of the 1 oz Libertad from 1982 to 1995 was exactly 36 mm, and since 1996 the coin has appeared with a diameter of 40 mm. The depiction of the goddess of victory has also been adapted both in terms of motif and perspective. Until 1995, the goddess of victory was depicted frontally, but from 1996 onwards a larger image section was chosen from diagonally right, which also shows the pedestal on which the statue stands.
