Krugerrand
The Krugerrand is a bullion and kurant coin, which is minted in gold, since 2017 also in silver or platinum. In the German-speaking world, the spelling Krugerrand and the corresponding pronunciation are common.
The fineness of the pieces minted since 1967 and generally regarded as the first modern gold bullion coins is 916.7/1000 and the fineness is 50, 5, 2, 1, ½, ¼, 1⁄10, 1⁄20 or 1⁄50 troy ounce, depending on the denomination. In fact, each Krugerrand coin weighs more than the fine weight - the higher roughness is due to the alloy with a proportion of copper to increase scratch resistance, which is the reason for the reddish-gold hue of the coin.
