The meaning of the Monarch Butterfly
For many years scientists were puzzled with the mysterious journey that the monarch butterflies make. Each year millions of these butterflies travel from the large lakes of North America all the way to the upland forests of the Mexican Sierra Nevada. It is here at the end of their extensive journey that they choose their residence for the Winter. This journey spans up to 4,500 kilometres.
Researchers have learned that these impressive butterflies, with beautiful black-and-orange wings, orientate themselves around the sun in order to define the correct path for their journey year after-year, generation-after-generation. During the Winter it is also the sun that gives these creatures the energy that they need. Swarms of these butterflies are vibrant as they cover the landscape like a giant veil when colder temperatures hit.
Pendant
The ten monarch butterflies that form the focal point of this piece are connected only ever so slightly to the frame through tiny connection points. This creates the illusion that the butterflies are floating effortlessly within the frame. Each butterfly is delicately adorned with a diamond that has a brilliant cut and refinements add to the elegance and overall luxury of this piece.
